JOB CLASSIFICATIONS IN MENTAL RETARDATION Contact Peg Shultz, Personnel Assistant at (570) 275-8691 to find out if there are currently any job openings. * Residential Program Trainee CMSU provides two levels of community-based services to persons with mental retardation. Employees work in either the Community Living Arrangements (CLA) Program or the Community Supports (CSP) Program. The CLA Program maintains a residential home environment where services are provided to individuals. The CSP Program provides services to persons in their own homes or apartments. Employees in these positions work in county mental retardation community residential programs providing services to individuals with mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities. They instruct individuals in residential settings to aid them in attaining the skills necessary for independent living in the community. This work includes instructing and assisting individuals with personal hygiene and in daily living skills such as housekeeping, cooking, laundry, and shopping; introducing individuals to community organizations and recreational opportunities; supporting individuals to aid them in adjusting to community living and solving personal problems; and ensuring that individuals receive medical and emergency care as necessary. Employees normally work in the afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays when individuals are not at work or school. Employees are also scheduled to work during nighttime hours. Minimum Requirements for Residential Program Trainee - No experience or training required. Minimum Requirements for Residential Program Worker - One year of experience in a human services agency working with persons who have mental and/or developmental disabilities, the elderly, or children and youth; OR two years of college which includes courses appropriate to the human services field; OR six months of experience as a Residential Program Trainee; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training. The employee provides supports coordination services to individuals with mental retardation and their families. An important aspect of this job is assessing an individual's strengths and needs for the purpose of developing an individual plan. The employee locates needed services, coordinates ongoing services, and monitors services to ensure that the individual is receiving the appropriate quality, type, duration and frequency of services and benefits. The employee must have technical and personal skills related to knowledge of family and team dynamics, conflict resolution, fiscal management, disabilities and communication. Minimum Requirements for Caseworker 1 - A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; OR two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college-level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social wlfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences, and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3. Minimum Requirements for Caseworker 2 - Six months of experience as a County Caseworker 1; OR successful completion of the County Social Casework Intern program; OR a bachelor's degree with a social welfare or social work major; OR a bachelor's degree which includes, or is supplemented by 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences, and one year of professional social casework experience in a public or private social services agency; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.
