Decision Support Center

The CMSU has utilized a Decision Support Center, or DSC, as an integral part of the Outpatient Recovery Services since 2015.

The DSC offers resources and tools primarily from The Common Ground Software program developed by Pat Deegan and Associates. It is a comfortable environment where the client can find support, strengthen their voice, and discover resources that will help them in their recovery journey. The DSC is peer staffed and recovery oriented.

Clients will typically spend time in the DSC prior to their prescriber appointment. This time will help clarify their needs and their expectations for the visit. This time will also be used to strengthen and affirm their wellness goals, review and create recovery tools, and to discover new possibilities. Conversation, a listening ear, and readily available resources are a part of each DSC session.

DSC Helps With…

  • Help a client focus on their goals and what is important to them, and helps convey that goal to staff. Power Statements also help give clarity to the client’s overall recovery, wellness and life priorities. They are generated by the client and regularly reviewed and updated in the DSC.

  • Help give a client awareness regarding their wellness, their thoughts, their feelings and symptoms, and can be shared with the prescriber. Comparisons of past health reports can illustrate areas of concern, patterns, as well as areas of growth and stability, that both client and staff can view.

  • Ensures that a decision will be mutually agreed upon between a prescriber and a client. Shared Decisions help put the client on equal footing with the prescriber and CMSU staff.

  • a library of vetted and approved health information, worksheets, tip sheets, Personal Medicine cards, and helpful videos, are available to the client and staff at any time.
